2012 BMW HP2 Sport Review

The BMW HP2 Sport caused quite a stir with its race track appearances - rarely has a 2-cylinder flat twin bike caused the competition so much trouble, it even outdistanced many a 4-cylinder bike. In the last 24-hour race at the Oschersleben Speedweek, both machines entered in the race finished in the overall top 10. One reason for this performance is the DOHC cylinder head*, which is being used for the first time in this fascinatingly engineered enthusiast’s motorcycle.

For all ambitious sports riders and keen flat twin fans a unique limited edition of 400 is now to be produced: derived from the paint finish of the Endurance machine, it is finished in the colours Alpine White /Indigo Blue / HP Red. As in the racing machine, the rims are finished in Indigo Blue at the front and Alpine White at the rear. Otherwise all the familiar specifications apply, including the material - leading to a sensational dry weight of 178 kg - and the impressive performance figures. In short: take the opportunity to put it away right now - or else use it for what it was built for and order a second set of rims for the rain tyres along with it!

* DOHC = Double OverHead Camshaft, double overhead camshaft for each cylinder.
